Ceitres@UCR 2019 Program
The CEITRES@UCR (IRES) program supported a cohort of four UCR students for the summer of 2019.
The cohort consisted of three undergraduate students (Carson Welty (CS Major), Cole Pivonka (CEN Major), and Winson Bi (CEN Major)) led by one ECE PhD student (Sheriff Sadiqbatcha) from our VSC Lab.
During the two months stay in Beijing, China, the students had the opportunity to conduct research at Prof. Wenjian Yu's EDA lab at Tshinghua University, one of the top universities in China, while also visiting several historical and culturally significant locations around the Beijing area.
See the student report IRES 2019 program for details of research and social activities.
Collaborative research work:
During the program, the students conducted cutting edge research in applying machine learning to solve several problems in VLSI reliability. Namely, the students helped with the ongoing development of a machine learning based thermal modeling scheme that can be used for post-silicon thermal characterization of commercial high-performance microprocessors. With the aforementioned thermal model, the students further aided in the development of a dynamic thermal/power control scheme by exploiting the dynamic-voltage-and-frequency-scaling control knobs that are available in Intel core processors. Additionally, the students explored thermal-aware code mapping techniques.
Social and career development:
Besides research, the students had the opportunity to explore various historical and culturally significant landmarks. These include the Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City, The Great Wall of China, Summer Palace, Kings Garden, Ancient Hutong, and several other locations.
Following are the major events for 2019 IRES program:
4/26/2019, The four IRES students met at the VSCLAB at UCR for the first time after the announcement of recruitment for this year IRES program. IRES students also took orientation for IRES program and collaborative research works.
5/22/2019, IRES students met with Mrs. Guadalupe Ruiz, who is the director for the student affairs at BCOE for some legal paper works and health insurance related issues.
8/28/2019, IRES students presented their research works and social activities at EDA Lab at Tsinghua University with Prof. Wenjian Yu's team.
Oct. 8, 2019, Post-IRES Workshop was held in the BCOE of UC Riverside. Three students present their research and social activities for UCR students.
